This is huge, and I wonder how much Amazon culture Dave is going to intentionally implement in Flexport. I heard the heavy recruitment of Amazonian people and practices was already jarring enough to tenured Flexport employees.

I’ve seen similar situations up close multiple times before. This guy has been at Amazon for 20+ years.

He is going to intentionally implement A LOT of Amazon culture. He is going to find the Amazon people that work there, pull them closer to him, and then hire away a bunch more of his buddies from Amazon.

Think about it this way. Do you think he’s going to get there and go “we’re switching to a four-day workweek! And everyone gets a 20% raise!” Not going to happen.

If I was at Flexport and didn’t buy in to the Amazon culture I’d start polishing my resume.

True, and on reflection of your comment, it's naive to wonder how hard he'll bring the culture of Amazon, especially since it's proven to "deliver results." While I view my time at Amazon as especially formative and valuable, it's a place I'll never return to for what are now probably obvious reasons. May God have mercy on Flexport souls.

Amen.

Flexport is on an impressive run. It's not going to keep that run going by dropping to a 4 day work week, that isn't gonna happen.

I wouldn't write off the compensation though, Amazon tends to pay very competitively across the whole company, from bottom of the company to the top. If flexport doesn't, I assume it will soon.

Wow, I wonder how they got him to leave a 46 million per year job. I'm guessing a lot of equity..

It's likely he is leaving because he missed out on the top Amazon job and it's not uncommon to be pushed out if you don't win a competition like that. So maybe money, maybe head of a a company is the driver, maybe he was encouraged to leave and find something else. It's a great opportunity for Dave, and a great hiring by Flexport.
