Mostly, it's a matter of deducing their actual goals:
a.) Make persistent change $Change in the real world
b.) Socially position themselves as supporters of $Change
Doing a.) generally requires long, hard work. Success is uncertain at best. Vs. b.) can be done in minutes on social media. Success is generally pretty certain.
Not hard to understand why most humans - at least those seriously active on social media - prefer b.).
