When did google get a TLD? Incredible. Can anyone register that or is it exclusive to the company? (Never heard of a TLD that only one company is allowed to register.)

Oh yeah, as long as you're a company that can promise to deliver the infrastructure to support it, IANA will let you apply[1]. I think it's terribly anti-competitive against smaller corporations, but what do I know.

Google, BMW, Target, Barclays, Sky, CERN, Amazon, Fujitsu, Progressive, TravelersInsurance... All kinds of companies have registered them now[2]. Not too many are actively in use though.
