It may just be me. But I see this too (as well as 504 gateway timeouts), sitewide at least for en.wikipedia.org. I reported my issue to https://downdetector.com/status/wikipedia/ but we shall see if it's just all in my head.

503 in the UK as well. Not good. This might be a helpful alternative: https://www.openzim.org/wiki/OpenZIM

ZIM/Kiwix is great! It even works via NAS or USB drive on iOS (i.e. without having to load the entire file into internal storage).

I'm experiencing the same.
