I had to do this recently. I just create a new project, and move the deps and js code files in it. And then fix whatever is breaking. The great thing is that they didn't have a lot of stuff done native side. The biggest changes was updating react-navigation to 5 from 3

That's a nice approach!

The chain of libraries to update is usually the hardest part for me, especially something like that react-navigation jump. That one sucked. Of course, you often have to update RN to support the latest OS versions properly so there is often no choice but to update libraries too.

I also feel like this works better for "create-react" style apps.
