I'll just add that I appreciate her cynicism because there is a staggering amount of bullshit in the high energy theory community. Embracing creativity is absolutely paramount, but people need to grow up and accept their own theory failures when they occur.

This seems to be all of academia. Maybe high energy physics is the worst offender, but from what I saw in gradschool, you need to be half charlatan to make it as a tenured professor, otherwise your grants don't get funded and your papers don't get published.
