I came to say the same thing. Although I would never be able to put is so eloquently into words.
For me this goes further. Anytime I rent a car I browse settings. "Oh cool, this car has lane-assist, and radar-powered cruise control". People look at me weird.
I think this is the same mindset that drew me to linux 20 years ago, when compiling and tweaking your own gentoo was not-crazy.
