I couldn't quite understand this line. Do they mean that they understood after reading this that they could program computers? Like it was their first exposure to programming, or is there some other meaning?

[2]: I could not find a better English translation for the original word "ЭВМ". The acronym stands for " electronic computation machine" which technically just means "computer", but in the sense of "computer occupying a whole room that feeds on punch cards and interns"
The book I didn't really like, I think it was too cheesy, but then again I already had a PC at this point.
