A sign of the times it seems. This is what happens when so much of how one constructs oneself is as a mere product of circumstance. We are of course, but something in the culture is weirdly centering it.

People do immoral, unethical or illegal things if they see an advantage in doing so.
People have been doing such things since well before the onset of recorded history.
In some circles, it's even celebrated (Uber, AirB&B...)
