This is a blatant scam. The clue? "NFTs for sale". Not sure how this survived HN submission and made it to the front page.

If I set up a page begging for $20 donations for a DB entry in my postgresql DB and submit to HN should it be upvoted?

EDIT:

It has a link to opensea where you can buy the NFT. So I can pay the website money for nothing in return.

It's not a scam, it's a joke.

There's no reason it can't be both.

It has a link to opensea where you can buy the NFT. So I can pay the website money for nothing in return.

You just unironically defined NFTs in general.

Yes, that was intentional.

NFTs. Look 'em up.

Yes, and it would be funny if we did.

I'm thinking of getting a breadstick.

...and?

Thats it. There is no and. I think if the point isnt obvious at this point i just give up making it

> should it be upvoted

That's up to the readers, isn't it? There is no "should". I enjoyed and thought it was pretty funny

It’s a scam in the same sense that “Bought it on eBay” by Weird Al is a scam, I suppose.

Poe's law. As Mr Poe says 16 years ago.

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody XXXXXXX in such a way that someone won't mistake for the genuine article.

That's the joke.

The joke is by thinly veiling as a joke, they can get a lot of traffic from HN, and a backlink, which will help with their SEO and social media, as well as maybe get some sales from HN readers directly.

do a little more digging and i think you'll see they are not optimizing for SEO. Sometimes a joke is just a.... joke.
