Neither the author of this article nor the investor being interviewed seem to actually understand options.

You want to make a “safe bet” and decide to buy a bunch of options…whoo boy.

Not just any options, but Chinese ADRs during a time of incredible volatility in Chinese markets.

Right, a bunch of options for a shell company with no real assets that could be shut down by the PRC on a whim.

I’d love to ask this guy what he considers risky.

On the plus side losing his retirement isn't so bad since he's not likely to live long enough to retire if this is his level of "acceptable risk". I imagine he invests in the down time between jumping through narrow slot canyons in his homemade wingsuit.

He described his investing style as super conservative.

It was “safe”, considering the wallstreetbets alternatives. Like 5% OTM calls on stable indexes or tickers, expiring within 3-5 days.
