Notably, their ToS forbids you from criticizing the site.

> 23. disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site.

Also rather ironically, it forbids excessive use of capital letters:

> 20. upload or transmit (or attempt to upload or to transmit) viruses, Trojan horses, or other material, including excessive use of capital letters

I’m trying to imagine how the person who wrote that sentence thinks excessive capital letters are related to viruses and Trojan horses.

A lot of discord servers will ban for use of all caps

Was talking yesterday about how forums used to have their own rules for appropriate behavior. The "golden" era of online comms

This is amusing, given that the Soviet newspaper was Pravda, or "Truth"

It's a hard name to meme on. He should have gone for his characteristic "can't help but talk about it". Some name like "Stolen Users Network"

It puts me in mind of an old Soviet joke about the two key news sources Pravda ("Truth") and Izvestia ("News"):

In Pravda there is no izvestia, and in Izvestia there is no pravda.

I'd be scared to work for a company under the man's control with all the news articles about him stiffing others on payment, but it will be interesting to see if conservative tech workers who complain about being in the minority will flock to build his effort

apparently they used open source mastodon[0].

the fediverse[1] is about to get "interesting".

its like that scene from a Western movie where a bunch of black-dressed men ride towards a serene bucolic ranch and the family inside looks through the window with a sense of foreboding

[0] https://joinmastodon.org/

[1] https://fediverse.party/

I've been hoping for celebrities to give Mastodon a shot after all of the racist spam proliferating in Facebook/Insta, but I'll admit this isn't quite what I had in mind. Do you have any more information on their decision to use Mastodon?

I'd hazard to guess because its twitter-like and quite easy to get going (open source, already deployed in large numbers etc.)

They've disabled signups now, but yes, they were using Mastodon. Proof: https://hackers.town/@thegibson/107137582573450090

The Mastodon community has dealt with this before when Gab came along. The majority of servers will just block the Trump instance.

And that's if they even enable federation. I suspect they won't.

'sensitive content'

Why's that, because it's Trump related?

I think it's because the author marked it so.

it is stil a remarkable event, in particular if it ever registers in non-technical circles

I expect it will be a gift that keeps on giving, like the Polish equivalent "Albicla" which was a total debacle, with rookie security mistakes where half of users were Popes ;)

Going to be hard to run a social media site from prison. But seriously, I'm surprised it's October and he hasn't felt a single consequence to his many actions.

But back on topic. If he's trying to say that his platform won't cancel people, what happens when the Taliban do sign up, or it's flooded with left leaning users?

Same thing that happens to them all other right wing apps and forums - they get banned.

This will be moderated by Trump and he will call them a synonym for unruly and boot, I imagine

> what happens when the Taliban do sign up, or it's flooded with left leaning users?

See section 7.22 of the ToS, under "Prohibited Activities":

"As a user of the site, you agree not to: disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site."

https://truthsocial.com/terms-of-service/

Should have named it 'Irony'/'Ironic'/'Ironical'.

> “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced.

Everything is framed in 'us vs them' language even now I see. Not surprising considering the data they've gotten from doing supporter polls. Here's an example; I wish it wasn't real, but it is.

"Who would you rather see fix our Nation’s shattered immigration policies?

Option 1: "President Trump"

Option 2: "A MS-13 Loving Democrat"

Feel free to peruse the other insightful questions here. They'd be hilarious if you remove the fact that this was part of a former head of state's official campaign.

> HL Mencken once said that “the trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one’s time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.” There’s an unfortunate corollary to this, which is that if you try to create a libertarian paradise, you will attract three deeply virtuous people with a strong committment to the principle of universal freedom, plus millions of scoundrels.

A little late to the game? This is like starting a newspaper.

May you live in interesting times indeed...

Isn't this the second attempt at this sort of thing for Trump?
