I don’t think 4% of medical professionals left from burn out, when the pandemic was at a lull. Similarly for tech people.
Once a company makes it clear they will require you to have a gene therapy, some people will leave. Once a company broadcasts they’ll promote based on race, some people are going to leave. Once it becomes clear the office you went to will not reopen, people move to be more free.
It’s why Texas, Florida, Tennessee, etc are growing. While places like Illinois, California and New York are shuttering businesses.
It’s amazing to drive from Illinois to Tennessee (I travel between both states regularly). In Illinois there are just empty malls, entire streets with 40-60% shuttered businesses. In Tennessee, every storefront is open, construction everywhere.
The resignations are really people saying “I’m done”. Why senior devs? Because they have families and they’ll do what’s best for their kids.
It’s very much a “who is John Galt?” Moment.
