Cannot confirm. Saw it a few days ago (in France) and every major scene was straight from the book.

The movie is good. Somebody not „in the know“ might read the book after seeing the film and not even know which came first.

The movie spans only the first half of the book. The second half will be more difficult to cast into a movie script. A lot of that is Paul’s spiritual experience and inward looking stream-of-consciousness…

Which trailer? The one(s) I saw were all characters and scenes directly from the book. Chani is an important part of the story.

I wouldn’t count on it being a thin adaptation, particularly considering the director and his history of extremely thoughtful cinema.

As for the trailer revealing little plot, Dune’s themes are so detailed and nuanced that it should not be surprising if they fail to convey them in a film trailer and fall back on the more easily explainable plot points.

No. Fidelity to the book is surprisingly (to me) high. Definite five star movie for me.
