With a bad enough radio and a high enough baud rate, limiting baud rate _is_ necessary for limiting bandwidth.

How? You limit physical over the air bandwidth, that inherently limits baud, but you don't need to do so explicitly.

With bad hardware your modulation won't be good enough, you will leak into other bands.
