What is pride and butter?

I think they meant bread & butter? But OP only used the word "pride", so yeah, it's a little confusing what this commenter meant.

I think it should be read as a contraction of ”pride, and bread and butter”.

Or a portmanteau of "pride and joy" and "bread and butter".
