One of the most frustrating things I've been finding about HN recently is the duplication noise.

The same thing happened with the recent Apple stuff. We had a series of repetitive posts on the same topic, which only lead to a thread of hundreds of posts saying exactly the same thing. Its like, what's the point, I'm not learning anything new, just the same old story and the same old discussion.

Please guys, there's a search box on the bottom of the page. ;-)

Fortunately I knew what's happening in Bullseye, but it's counterintuitive that the referenced post is linked into the release notes, which is already available months* ago. Also, in my personal opinion release notes misses the context.

"Is it released yet ? The download page still gives a download link to the version 10.10"

Someone (hint: not the linked comment) was too excited yesterday.

* Actually, years ago.

Industry attempts to control these kind of situations by using press embargos[1] - ensure that the news isn't public until all of the materials and associated marketing is ready to go, focusing the message and conversation.

I'm glad that that isn't the approach taken here (it's a more genuine, transparent and organic approach). Following the micronews[2] site posts was enjoyable.

Although yep, perhaps there could have been good context for newcomers to Debian from this announcement article rather than the release notes.

Fortunately I don't think Debian is under market time or presentation demands, so it'll roll on regardless.

Fair enough, I knew Bullseye is ready to be released (on mid-August sans if there's a nasty bug) last month, but I agree that the linked post should go into Debian's micronews about the preparations or into their mail archive rather than a (for someone who's not into Debian) user manual without any context whatsoever.

Given that people have been complaining about this for 10+ years, I think this "recently" can be classified as the Hedberg tense (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28109274).

We do our best! Certainly the principles are clear:

I wonder if moving the search box to the top of the page would help.

I'm using HN on 13 inch laptop and I never noticed that search at all! Thanks for pointing that out.

I missed that one and am grateful for this duplication :)

I've seen comments in the past of people complaining about reposts. Maybe you should search for them before commenting?

I daresay hundreds of threadjacks on this same topic have happened in many threads in the past.
