Buy a 40 Watt Inscandescent light bulb and put it in a lamp next to your current laptop. Turn it on every time you put the laptop to sleep.

That sounds pretty legal to me, however..

Many countries have passed laws to phase out incandescent bulbs, including the US (in 2007) and the EU. [1]

Though the laws typically have many exceptions and take effect over time, so saying “incandescent bulbs are illegal” is a somewhat strong statement.

In many EU countries those light bulbs are being sold as space heaters. I know that chicken coups definitely use them as such.
