That person has weird definition of "golden handcuffs" that that does not match the common meaning of the word. Investopedia says it well [0]

The last part, "stipulated period of time", is the key. The salary or perks that you get every month do not count as "golden handcuffs". The stock grants that vest over two years are. The most famous / egregious example are Uber's non-transferable options [1] -- you get millions of dollars but only if you stay with the company until IPO.
