Her history is spooky. And there is no evidence she is still alive.
Her wikipedia page seems sterile, and searching her name doesn't bring up anything about possible death.
In my own amateur opinion, either natural crossover or laboratory escape theories are plausible but we'll almost certainly never be able to prove it either way.
