It would be nice if Firefox played nicely with cgroup memory limits. Right now, Firefox will freeze, crash or freeze while swapping heavily when it starts allocating near or at the limit. Same thing with Firejail.

That's a really tough problem to solve on Linux. We're actively working on it in order to make Firefox better behaved when memory gets tight but it's not easy. You can follow the work in these two bugs:

I've also seen Firefox freezing and swapping heavily when real physical RAM is depleted.

I was able to reduce RAM usage by reducing the number of content processes, so that might be helpful to you also.

Yeah, I dropped dom.ipc.processCount by half a while ago, but I think Fission[1] overrides that setting.
