It seems to me there's a conversation to have about that, it's a shame that a) those comments seem a bit too dismissive and b) that HN just hides the controversy rather than talking it over. One of the comments in particular laments "steal[ing] the achievements of real women" which in tech circles is probably a quite important thing to consider.
I think this is particularly interesting as the author writes that one of their values is "Don't try hide who I am, especially when it becomes difficult." [0] - to me this post goes against that value. I'm sure other will disagree.
