We already are “actual enemies,” but the US isn’t acting like it. And that’s problematic. We should consider China of today the same way we considered Germany in WW2. They’re that bad, and we should be acting like it.
Vietnam wasn't lost militarily. It was lost politically due to the war's unpopularity.
