All this shows is that you can cherry-pick comments to make yourself feel superior and get back pats from your in-group. Its just like the original Shit Reddit Says, which started out on somethingawful.com, who's main claim to fame was that they were elitist snobs (had to pay $10 to join) and quick to ban.

Agreed. I am quite tired of these craven point-and-shame sites. Couple years back, I also used to browse communities such as /r/circlebroke or /r/subredditdrama that thrive on mocking their ideological enemy while being protected from any kind of criticism. Since then, I have realized what kind of deleterious effect browsing those websites has. The constant positive feedback loop only leads to groupthink and the further dehumanization of others. Unfortunately, Reddit really encourages this type of community model.

/r/SubredditDrama is occasionally useful for figuring out what the hell is going on…

Well..it does also show that there are a hell of a lot of very silly comments on HN, if you go looking for them. Not quite Literally Unbelievable, but some of them aren't that distant. I kept reading for like an hour, until the reality of it was undeniable. But yes, I agree there's something very unpleasant about living like that. Luckily we don't have to!

Wouldn’t something awful’s “main claim to fame” be that it shaped internet humor as we know it today?
