Stephen Wolfram seems to be suffering from a mix of selection bias, confirmation bias and the problem that he overhyped his claims and his self-praise so heavily over the years that there is no way he could ever back down and say that something he invented does not make sense. His only path forward is to stick to what he is claiming, no matter what. And that's a pretty unhealthy place to be in.
And it's also a deeply unscientific place. The option to be wrong and change course is at the heart of true scientific inquiry.
