The cynical view is that it is now official Plan 9 cannot be used to make money anymore, so waiving away the remaining monopoly rights one may have over it is free positive publicity
Are they using Plan 9 as a commodity (in which case it could be replaced by another OS at the cost of redevelopping their added value) or are they selling Plan 9 as a product ?
