That's part of their current business: the name is licensed for HMD Global, which then outsources production to Foxconn. It's Nokia in name only, literally. Seem to be very good phones though.
HMD was established, by Nokia, to produce phones, since Nokia wasn't allow to under the agreement with Microsoft, and is run by ex-Nokia executives. HMD bought "back" the Nokia Mobile division from Microsoft. Nokia holds shares in HMD. nokia.com sells the HMD phones. It is a bit more Nokia than just by name.
Yeah, the phones run Android One (so stock android, no bloat), and pretty solid in terms of construction (not 3310 level, but I've dropped it a number of times and it still seems to be working well).
They're pretty much the only ones still releasing Android One models. Out of 6 new Android One phones in 2020, five were Nokia.
I'm scared Android One is dying, Pixels are prohibitively expensive, and I'll have nowhere to jump ships once my current Nokia dies.
Pixel A phones are very good all-rounders in the midprice segment. I know lots of people won't pay 350€$ for a phone but I find them to be pretty good value at that price point.
Lenovo make Android One phones.
I got a new Moto G Pro from them this year. Very good phone for the price.
Yup, that's the sixth one. Other than that one and a few Nokias, there's nothing new since the beginning of 2020.
Unfortunately it seems that HMD's Nokia phones do not support OEM boot unlock, unlike many other Android One models. So no running Plan9 on your Nokia phone.
