Wow. I believe you should begin by assuming ignorance, and not assume the opposite. This [1] will get you started. Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Computer Science, independently, are all valid and highly valued, highly sought after backgrounds for careers in AI. Have all those in a multidisciplinary background, it is likely your career is in AI.

You might think you're making fun of Linguistics, but your quip merely demonstrates your gap in knowledge. Linguistics and AI are heavily related.

That's an easy question to answer. She has a cs related masters and Phd. And she has done research at Johns Hopkins and Microsoft.
