Well, the government has spent billions paying Boeing et al to develop a (non-reusable) public option, Orion, but it has had multiple problems (thanks, Boeing!). So if they are publicly endorsing SpaceX, that’s a serious rebuke to the public-private industrial complex behind Orion.
