Seems like something with very little margin for error and catastrophic if you screw up. I'm not sure why this was a major feature they needed to ship or what problem they're solving for...
The stuff about reducing friction seems like a snow job to me. A typical leg of a drive involves 3 shifts and probably lasts more than 5 minutes. Not real arduous.
