Same thing happened to me in my first job. Turned out the old guys turned down the position and I was the only one dumb enough to do it! :)

That was running through my head reading some of these other anecdotes "No one else wanted the position."

These are not the promotions you are looking for..

Was at one place. We went through 7 engineering directors.

Finally out of desperation I took the position. Although I made it clear I didn’t want it.

Yea. Left after six months in that role.

Which was longer then anyone else had lasted.

I learned why they didn't want it soon enough
