I'm not surprised. I'm within the top 70k reviewers in the UK, I constantly get emails (I've no clue where they're getting my email address) from random sellers offering free products in return for reviews. They don't explicitly ask for positive, but its clear what's what they're wanting.

Typically they'll request you buy the product and then paypal you a refund once you've done the review.

How many products have you reviewed? Why do you do it?

I just review almost everything I buy, why would you not. According to my Amazon profile I've only reviewed 220 things.

I am not sure if that was rhetorical, but reviewing things a) takes time and b) builds up Amazons moat with no benefit to the reviewer

It doesn't take much time, no more than a minute or two, I don't buy much. No its true I get no value from it, but there's many things humans do they get no direct value from. I read Amazon reviews, I get value from them some of the time, I do use them to inform my purchasing decisions - I'm paying it forward.
