I think you ou’d be surprised how many people can’t balance a checkbook. And how many people are taken in by straightforwardly bad decisions (excessive use of credit etc).

Do people need to know how to balance a checkbook anymore?

Just because the payments are electronic doesn't mean there is no longer a need to track cash flows in and out of your accounts.

Sure, they do need to know how to balance their account, even if their bank statement has a sum at the end.
