The self imposed complexity of brittle aws microservices/lambda stringed together is definitely the fault of developers. There are a handful of companies that need (and can afford!) architecture like that (maybe, Uber is backpeddling on it) but the vast majority of the world is shooting themselves in the foot and that is on developers and resume driven dev. Nothing to do with faster iterations, although that is probably how it is sold to management. The developer should know better.
