Some people are apparently just not wired to enjoy physical activity. Every single time this topic comes up in a sufficiently large forum, there's an incredible array of responses ranging from "I feel like shit if I skip a workout" to "of course exercise sucks, anybody who says they enjoy it is a psycho, but I do it anyway to look good naked".
That may be right. I love martial arts and m body craves doing them. But running to me is root canal. When my wife says she actually enjoys running and not just the end results of increased endurance I think she is nuts!
That's another axis of the spectrum of such discussions. I'm not just talking about different forms of exercise, though. For me, just the feeling of inhabiting my body is vaguely uncomfortable much of the time, and significant exertion usually heightens that discomfort, in addition to often making me feel lethargic for the rest of the day and occasionally leaving me with an injury that I don't notice until the next day (when this happens, it typically takes days or weeks to fully heal). In my case, I suspect that it's a sensory processing abnormality that makes it extremely difficult for me to tell when I'm pushing any given joint/muscle/organ too far.
Sorry to hear that.
The benefits occur in addition to any benefits from physical activity iirc.
