My boss, James Bennett, solicited a piece from Tom Cotton that called for the state to take arms against protesters (protesting might called… speech?), and didn't read the piece before publishing it. The people saying he was doing a bad job are against Free Speech.
Opinion writers like me aren't fact-checked and are allowed to mouth off on Twitter, my newsroom employees _are_ fact-checked and not allowed to have opinions on Twitter. They broke the rules and used speech to say I misrepresented an internal meeting to my own ends when I thought they weren't going to talk. They still dare to have Slack emoji reactions (not speech, somehow) to tell me my ideas are bad.
