VMware Cloud on AWS[1] allows for a hybrid on-prem/cloud environment and even supports vMotion between the two[2].

In a Kubernetes context can do this with Cluster API. I run my mgmt cluster in vSphere which spins up workload clusters in vSphere and AWS on demand. Works great! https://cluster-api.sigs.k8s.io/user/quick-start.html

VMware's entire strategy at the moment appears to be hybrid/multi-cloud and Kubernetes.

If you can't do that already (and I'm fairly certain you can), you shouldn't have to wait much longer -- as this "partnership" and their others e.g., with AWS) illustrate.
