It's wishful thinking that the lab science credit requirements somehow teaches rigor and critical thinking skills through osmosis. It doesn't, people learn how to write a lab report and continue being the same dummies that walked into the room.
It's similar to wishful thinking to believe vague "humanities education" would impart any ethics.
And at least in the science labs you don't have to figure out whether or not your grade depends on how well your reports parrot the teacher's own options back at them.
