They complain when they pay you money for your data.

They just want to complain. Thus their complaints are simply worthless.

Or they just don't think it should be normal for companies to spy on you, regardless of how it's compensated.

Spying indicates lack of consent, which does not apply here.

Any opinion looks worthless when you deliberately mischaracterise it like this.
