And one should also add that the BJP's embrace of Hindu chauvinism has caused repeated episodes of lynching throughout the country (as a somewhat relatable phenomenon for Western, there are surely many more events since 2014 that have damaged our country's claim to secular government.)

That was an American, talking about America. The reason the original person brought this up was because the GP insinuated not trusting Modi because he was banned from entering the US. Currently, certain muslims are banned from entering the US, so it's not a significant measure of credibility.
