For those who, like me, have never heard of this before:

Spectrum is a real-time chat service where each conversation has a permalink.

View on HN

Not to be confused with the other Spectrum which is a real-time chat service and forum

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/

https://starcitizen.tools/Spectrum_(module)

Or the other Spectrum, formed from the merger of Time Warner Cable and Charter.

Or the other Spectrum, the magazine of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, which has been published since 1964...

Or the instant messaging transport, which is what I thought this was related to when I first saw it. :)

Or the 8-bit Z80-based 1980s computer that was huge outside of the US (when the US was mainly Commodore 64 focused) (1) and of Google Doodle fame (2)

Let's just pretend we're confused.

I don't think that's pretending at this point

Charter spectrum predates time Warner's take over. It wasn't a merger, twc is taking over charter. Just like the time they did that with AOL.

TWC most certainly did not take over Charter. The other way around, which is also why the legacy Spectrum brand continued on. Disclaimer: Former employee of Bright House/Charter.

The same with AOL with everyone thinking the same thing. Sorry but charter is toast, it will be either a brand name and see me infrastructure, but entirely controlled by twc.

Incorrect. TWC is no more. Everything is Spectrum now, which has been Charter's retarded brand for quite some time, and will remain so.

The branding might be different but at the helm is what was twc. Charter spectrum or whatever they call it this week is not in control. This is a reverse merger, twc owned charter. New name, same company.

You're talking about internal politics, which group of shitty telecom execs won the arm wrestling match for control of the merged shitty telecom. And you may well be right, I don't much know or care.

I imagine they'll rebrand it as GitHub Chat or something, then.

Thank you.

Is that different from how Slack conversations or Twitter conversations have permalinks, in an interesting way? What starts a new conversation?

same here, by title I wondered how can spectrum, the ISP can give anything at all for free.
