1. Gait detector is functional.

2. Countermeasure: use stone in the shoe, tape and other things to fool the gait detector.

You can't dance, you can't talk, the only thing about you is the way that you walk?

Arguably, there are enough people walking around with stones in their shoes that altering your movement with that method would be masking enough - until they're able to simulate how you're normal gait would change with x sized stone at whatever location in your shoe..

Alternatively, I've heard (don't have the source handy) that they're looking at other stuff that the stone in shoe might not change such as overall height and knee to leg to hip to foot stature and angular momentum ratios. Who knows?

Counter counter counter measure: train yourself so your gait parameters exactly match those of a target, to generate a false positive.

I feel like the very point of choosing gait recognition in the first place was because it is difficult to mimic (at that level of detail).

I guess it's time to start dumping more money into cybernetic leg research

I was gonna suggest putting a coin to get away with it but then I read #3. Damn, China is screwed. I hope they don't plan to bring this worldwide because although this will be useful in catching criminals, it just might spread paranoia and fear. Then again, maybe it's already happening and we don't even know it yet?

I think the vast noise of people sprain their ankles, the people who did get a pebble in their shoe and the old people who decided to not put on their knee brace for that quick errand and similar that would result in way too many false positives to mark them all persons of interest.

You'd think the same logic applied with profiling metrics used in areas that implement stop-and-frisk, but it doesn't stop them.

A false positive is an excuse to target someone police don't like, or suspect is guilty, so the dismantlement of a system that provides those convenient false positives will be fought.
