I wonder if the problem could be solved if the bus lane or bike lane was in the middle between two general traffic lanes, rather than off to the side (where people tend to idle or park).
in that case wouldnt the bus would necessarily need to cross traffic to get to and from a stop? and traffic would have to cross the bus lane to make turns?
