Also, currently, all decoder chips (at least the 'official' ones you need for an 'HD Radio' designation) are controlled/manufactured/sold by one group, 'Xperi'. The protocol itself is closed/proprietary, and it's not trivial to build any kind of receiver/decoder, like you could with analog FM/AM.
