He was arrested on the orders of someone who has a lot to gain politically, and in a country that regularly arrests people for what we consider to be basic human rights, so this doesn't convince me of anything about his character.
Regardless, he was trying to buy influence here in the US, and his candidate didn’t win. And he managed to piss off the guy who did win. Too bad.
