Not only is this a perfectly reasonable question to ask - one is almost tempted to fault someone for not coming back with this as the very first question to ask in response to the question that was initially asked.

Given that 99.99% of the time you're tempted to go that route (as with, similarly: your own ORM, "scripting language", whatever) - you're going to wind up with, at the very least, way more of a challenge than you initially bargained for.
