I am on a macbook as well, with externals at my usual haunts.
It is really interesting to see how many people use a laptop as a main dev box. I figured that more hackers would have a desktop and a laptop
A Macbook Pro 13". That is all.
I was really surprised by the weight of this machine. It's also very low-resolution. But the build quality is much-improved over precedessors. If Apple started to compete based on weight and resolution I might consider them, but who knows--maybe they're trying to avoid impinging on the lower-level ipad market.
The 13-inch Macbook Pro is just a lot heavier than it looks. It's much smaller than the 15-inch, but not much lighter.
That's more than enough.
I have a MacBook 13" in the office, and when I bring it home I plug it into a 26" Samsung display with mac keyboard and magic mouse, plus various external HDs.
This. + Magic Mouse and Lacie firewire speakers. May get the cinema display sometime soon.
Yes - Cinema display or other nice external monitor. Should boost productivity (although I'm not sure how much).
