If you give your kids books, text isn't scary

I don't think what parents find scary is text but that programming is (for these parents) not text they comprehend.

Now, there is an assumption with a book that kids will learn to read the language. Maybe parents should have the same attitude towards programming.

If that held up, I wonder why (at least from the article) it seems that parents thought the same.

I think that sometimes parents "protect" their kids from complicated things. They underestimate what children are capable of.

I think it's because they think generally and not for just their own kids if they are already good readers/writers.
