Before anyone jumps down my throat, I would also posit that "white" is not an ethnicity, it's the fiction of a lack of one's ethnicity. And that men are many things besides masculine. In these senses both masculinity and whiteness are defined in terms of power, not in terms of intrinsic human qualities. A white man is not such because of his Y chromosome and skin color, but because of his adherence to fictitious power dynamics tied to those things. To the extent that white men are not intrinsically masculine, and have ethnic identities, we are not White Men and we exist outside of those power dynamics, and can recover from the brain damage participation in them causes.
Crossing my fingers commenters have it in their hearts to contradict me, and not just vote me out of the conversation, because this is still a pretty ethereal idea in my head. And it's difficult to find places where it feels safe to bring it up. It's something I would enjoy seeing HN's thoughts on.
