The moon is destroyed on the first page of Seveneves. So not quite.

The moon breaks in half in the first page, but a cascade event happens about a hundred pages into the book, then further changes happen :) . So I think it is accurate to say that it is analogous!

I believe it's in the afterword of Seveneves, that space debris was mentioned as one of Neal Stephenson's inspirations for the plot of that book.
